Volume 6 Front Kick by Shawn Kovacich is a very well written book from beginning to end. The diagrams make it easy to follow and understand from beginners all the way to seasoned martial artists. This book breaks down each step into several technical points so that you can easily understand the kick fully and perform it correctly. Each technical point is clearly illustrated by pictures and illustrated foot positions so it's easy to understand by seeing the break down of each technical point of the kick. In closing I would like to say, "Well done Shawn this is one of the best martial art book I have ever read."

I have received your book and could never imagine that 200 pages could be written about back kicks only!!! I must say that I could not be more impressed by the work put in this book. You obviously got the technique for kicks.

Back Kick
I can't tell you how much I appreciate you signing your book for me. It is now a treasure in my home, one, which I can share with my kids as they get older. Back Kick is easily the best and most significant book ever written on kicking. Your writing is simply superb! Brilliantly laid out and easy to follow, not one step is missed, nor is any question a reader may have unanswered. Back Kick shares the kind of information only one of the best martial artists in the world could deliver. You have written one hell of a book Shawn, and the whole series is going to set a new standard in martial arts writing. Thank you so very much for sharing your knowledge with me. I remain in your debt.

Back Kick
Shawn Kovacich has written a book that thoroughly covers the kicking skills of the "martial arts." Kovacich exposes the intricacies of the "Back Kick" much in the same way as the teaching and learning philosophy of the late Bruce Lee's masterpiece, "Tao of Jeet Kune Do." I highly recommend reading and studying Kovacich's excellent interpretation in "Back Kick," which is the first volume in the Achieving Kicking Excellence series. It is another book that every martial artist should have in their personal library.

Back Kick
Incredible book! Whether you enjoy martial arts or not, Shawn's ability to break down a kick is comparable to a surgeon performing brain surgery on a patient. Shawn makes his Achieving Kicking Excellence series an easy read for anyone. By touching on every aspect of the physical and mental training techniques needed to correctly execute a kick, Shawn creates a strong foundation for any individual interested in learning how to either learn a kick, or improve upon their own kicking skills.

Wheel Kick Posted by: Joseph L.
Wheel Kick
The newest publication in the "Achieving Kicking Excellence" series by author Shawn Kovacich, is a comprehensive study of skill, technique, and execution of martial arts kicks that only one who has mastered the "arts," is capable of divulging. Shawn Kovacich has exposed in his newest book (Wheel Kick), the refined skills necessary to effectively use kicks in a pure and simplistic form of self-defense. Shawn's understanding of how to develop explosive martial arts kicks, is in the equivalent realm of Bruce Lee's "Tao of Jeet Kune Do." After reading the finer points of this book, it is my humble opinion that every martial artist will benefit by Shawn's insightful interpretation and analogys. It is a book every person interested in martial arts should own.

Wheel Kick Posted by: Jessica B.
Wheel Kick
A friend of mine had purchased Mr. Kovacich's book Wheel Kick. She told me how in depth it was and how it broke everything down. So, I thought I might as well try it. What could it hurt? When the book arrived, I sat down to flip through and ended up reading the entire thing. WOW! I can't believe that someone could take one kick and break it down to the smallest detail. With my classes we get shown the basics and go from there with any kick, but this book goes into minute detail over where your entire body should be, even your arms. I started using the book in supplement to my classes and saw myself growing in leaps and bounds. Even my instructor noticed. He told me that he noticed that I was starting to perform kicks that were levels above me. He wanted to know what I was doing differently from the other students. I showed him Mr. Kovacich's book and he said the same thing I did, WOW! He borrowed it for a couple weeks to look it over. I had to fight to get the book back. Even he said that he has never seen anyone that has broken down a kick to the finest details. Now he is teaching some principles from the books in class. I can't say it enough, Thank You Mr. Kovacich for the wonderful book that has help me and my dojo. Keep me posted on the new books. Jessica

Axe Kick Posted by: Jessica B.
Axe Kick
Axe Kick is just as good, if not better, than Wheel Kick. This is one of the more difficult kicks to perform if it is not done properly. In class I didn't get the break down that I needed to know to perform the kick properly and I was going home with various injuries. After reading Axe Kick, I saw where my mistakes were and how to correct them. Thanks! I like coming home from class without the aches and pains. Mr. Kovacich broke down the steps of the Axe Kick so well, that when I first skimmed through the book, I could see what I was doing wrong. He even referenced pictures of someone cutting a block of wood with an axe that helped me to understand the main principle of the kick. Although this book has not come back from the printer yet, I was privileged to get a copy of the book in an Adobe PDF file. Along with the great information, I am glad that Mr. Kovacich let me get a head start on reading and practicing with the book. Thank you so much.

Back Kick
A friend of mine had purchased Mr. Kovacich's second book Wheel Kick, and she told me how in depth it was and how it broke everything down. So, I thought I might as well try it. What could it hurt? When the book arrived, I sat down to flip through and ended up reading the entire thing. WOW! I can't believe that someone could take one kick and break it down to the smallest detail. I had taken that book to my dojo and showed it to my instructor and he said the same thing I did, WOW! He borrowed it for a couple weeks to look it over. I had to fight to get the book back. Even he said that he has never seen anyone that has broken down a kick to the finest details. So, you know what I had to do, I immediately got on my computer and ordered two copies of his first book, Back Kick, one for me and the other for my instructor. This book breaks back kick and its main variations down into a very simple and easy to understand approach. It goes into minute detail over all aspects of executing this kick, from where your body should be during each position of the kick, to the correct execution of all the basic principles involved in the correct execution of the kick. There is also a section of basic applications against an opponent, and even a trouble shooting area. Now my instructor is teaching a lot of the principles from these books in his class and is getting a seminar set up for Mr. Kovacich to come teach at our dojo for a few days. I can't say it enough, Thank You Mr. Kovacich for the wonderful books that have helped me and my dojo. Keep me posted on the new books.

Back Kick
I would like to thank the author, Shawn Kovacich, for giving me the opportunity to have read such a detailed and understandable book in Back Kick. I was amazed on how thorough and in-depth, yet easy to understand, his approach was while teaching such a complex kick. Mr. Kovacich breaks down every aspect of each and every component in the kick through an in-depth and detailed analysis. He also adds his own personal sense of humor to his writing, which is quite interesting I might add, throughout the entire book, which makes it even more enjoyable. Each and every step in each kick is so precise that it is very easy to follow. There is no guess work involved it is that detailed! He also includes numerous illustrations and photographs along with the text showing you the proper technique to use. In my personal opinion, I feel anyone eager to learn would most definitely be able to follow along and perform the Back Kick like a pro. One could also benefit if they were an instructor teaching the Back Kick in their curriculum. This would enhance your teaching ability, which in turn you could pass on to your students allowing them the opportunity to learn at a much faster rate with maximum results. This book is an excellent tool for both beginners and the advanced martial artist. I was personally impressed by the author on how detailed his book was and I enjoyed Back Kick very much. I look forward to reading and studying the other books in his Achieving Kicking Excellence series. Sincerely, Mike Orvis

Side Kick Posted by: Jessica
Side Kick
Side Kick was another kick that I thought I knew pretty well. But I didn't like to use it because I was always hurting my foot. I couldn't figure out what was wrong because everything looks like it is supposed to. When I read Side Kick, volume #10 in the Achieving Kicking Excellence series by Shawn Kovacich, I learned that I was using the wrong area of my foot to strike my opponent. I was using the entire side or knife edge of my foot to strike my opponent, rather than just the outside edge of my heel. That made sense to me, so I tried it the next class I had. Not surprisingly, I performed the kick a lot more efficiently and was hitting the kicking bags harder without the pain that I was used to experience in my foot and ankle. There were a whole lot more things that I learned as well, but since this is my last review for this series of books, I wanted to point out some of the great things that are relevant to each kick that are included in each book. Remember that each section in each book directly relates to that particular kick. 1. Outstanding detail and approach to the principles behind the correct execution of each kick. 2. The mind blowing amount of detail that is included in each book is staggering. 3. The format of the each book is the same and very easy to follow. 4. The "Troubleshooting" section was very informative and answered a lot of questions. 5. The breakdown of each kick to its simplest level in order to enhance the learning process. 6. The "Notes" sections that are found throughout the each book are little gems of wisdom in and of themselves. 7. The additional sections on how to improve your kicking skills. 8. The "Applications" section, although brief is very informative and wets the appetite for the next set of books in the series. 9. The author's technical expertise is without question and the thought and care that he put into his books shines through in every way. 10. Finally, the author's style of teaching is very easy to understand and comprehend. In closing I would like to highly recommend to everyone that reads my reviews on the books in this series to buy a complete set and see for yourself just how fantastic these books really are. You won't regret it!
